Job Description

KH Properties – Lead CarpenterAbout You

You’re looking for a stable, year-round opportunity where your craftsmanship is valued and your hard work is recognized. You want to grow your skills, work with people you respect, and be part of projects you’re proud to point out to friends and family. You thrive when you’re given clear expectations, quality tools, supportive teammates, and steady work that keeps you moving and learning.

At KH Properties, we’ve been in your shoes. We know what it feels like to work for companies that don’t communicate or don’t invest in their people — which is exactly why we choose to operate differently. We’re not perfect, but we are committed to continuous improvement, strong communication, and taking care of our people.

As a Lead Carpenter, you’ll help bring new life to our multifamily communities through high-quality, detail-driven renovation work. You’ll collaborate with a strong construction team that values craftsmanship, safety, and respect for the homes and residents we serve. Travel between KH Properties locations will be required based on project needs.

About Us

KH Properties acquires, renovates, and manages multifamily communities throughout the Midwest and Southeastern U.S. Our mission is simple: revitalize neglected communities and create high-quality homes while strengthening the lives of the families, employees, and neighborhoods we serve.

Our construction team plays a critical role in that mission. We complete full-scope interior and exterior renovations — breathing new life into buildings and raising the standard of quality across our portfolio. We pride ourselves on being hands-on, solutions-oriented, and committed to delivering a product we stand behind.

General Job Description

As a Lead Carpenter with KH Properties, you will:

  • Perform a wide range of construction tasks including demolition, layout, rough framing, drywall, finish carpentry, interior renovations, exterior improvements, concrete work, grading, drainage, and additional duties as assigned.
We do a little bit of everything.

  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, saws, measurement tools, and other equipment.

  • Apply your carpentry skills to produce high-quality, code-compliant work that aligns with KH’s standards.

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean job site; care for company tools and equipment.

  • Support other crews or projects as needed based on company priorities and seasonal workload.

  • Bring a positive attitude, problem-solving mindset, and desire to contribute to a team environment.

  • Use your craftsmanship to make a real impact on the quality of our communities and the lives of our residents.

Benefits
  • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance after the initial eligibility period

  • 401(k) with 100% company match up to 4%

  • Career path options with competitive pay ($30–$40/hr, based on skill level)

  • Holiday pay after 60 days

  • Vacation pay after the initial period

  • 5-day work week, occasional overtime over 40 hours

  • OSHA-10 training and other certifications available

  • A collaborative team environment where your ideas are valued and your growth is supported

  • Consistent, year-round work with a company committed to long-term investment in its people

Requirements
  • Previous construction or carpentry experience is required.

  • This is a construction role, not a maintenance position.

  • Ability to demonstrate and live out our Core Values each day.

  • Willingness to learn from experienced team members and contribute to a positive, collaborative job-site culture.

  • Strong attendance, reliability, and a valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to work across multiple job sites in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.

  • Comfort working in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities, job schedules, and project deadlines.

  • Commitment to safe work practices — safety must always come first.

  • Dedication to code-compliant, quality craftsmanship.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and positivity, even when job-site challenges arise.

  • Basic comfort with smartphones, apps, photos, and reporting tools used for daily job documentation.

  • Alignment with KH’s mission of serving our residents and improving our communities.
