Job Purpose

Manage hazardous waste in accordance with local, state, and federal laws that govern the generation, storage and transportation of hazardous waste. Maintain detailed records to ensure that all laws and requirements are met. Assist in the development of procedures to ensure the facility meets all criteria of the laws that govern hazardous waste. Operate the wastewater treatment plant.  Assist as needed in other areas as directed by the department lead or manager.

Key Responsibilities

•    Follow all established safety rules and procedures
•    Demonstrate integrity while performing duties as per company’s Code of Conduct
•    Understanding of basic laws (RCRA) pertaining to hazardous waste generation, storage, transportation and disposal 
•    Understand the information on hazardous waste manifest and land bans, including how to properly fill out forms
•    Maintain required waste-related records in an audit-ready state
•    Understand and follow the labeling and placarding procedures for shipments of hazardous waste, be it either drum shipment or bulk shipment
•    Schedule pickups of hazardous wastes and know the contacts for the different shipments.
•    Understand all waste streams onsite and be able to categorize wastes into their proper streams. 
•    Be familiar with areas and departments that generate hazardous waste, how the waste is generated, and the locations of all the satellite accumulation areas onsite.
•    Inspect hazardous waste drum storage area every week and fill out inspection form for RCRA records compliance
•    Be familiar with a non-hazardous waste manifest for drum shipments.
•    Set up and coordinate shipments for disposal of universal and non-hazardous waste
•    Establish positive working relationships throughout the various plant areas and provide support and guidance on waste classification, labeling, and transportation as needed
•    Understand and support waste reduction initiatives such as recycling, SLOB resale, etc. 
•    Operate the wastewater treatment plant as directed by the plant operator
•    Obtain and/or maintain the required certification to operate the wastewater treatment plant
•    Understand and help to maintain the operation of the on-site containment pond
•    Work independently, multi-task, and balance priorities 
•    Perform area housekeeping responsibilities

Job Requirements

•   High School Diploma
•   Prior experience working in a paint manufacturing facility preferred
•   Prior manufacturing experience
•   English Speaking
•   Microsoft basic skills preferred
•   Ability to read, comprehend, and follow safety instructions and safety guidelines
•   Ability to pass forklift test and obtain forklift certificaction
•   Ability to operate a forklift, following all operating instructions effectively and efficiently 
•   Ability to read and apply accurate labels
•   Ability to measure and weigh accurately
•   Ability to lift and handle containers such as 5 gallon pails up to 75 lbs, 60 lb bags of pigment or maneuvering drums up to 900 lbs
•   Must have effective interpersonal skills
•   Ability to work independently
•   Ability to multi-task and balance priorities
•   Dedicated and committed safety leadership and presence
•   Ability to climb stairs wearing steel-toed footwear
•   Ability to work in hot and cold environments and inclement weather
•   Ability to work in a heavy manufacturing environment with exposure to chemical agents
•   Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
•   Arm-Hand steadiness- Keeping your arm or hand steady
•   Near vision- ability to read labels and see details up close
