Hours: Full-time, exempt position. Some weekend and evening work is required. Travel required.

The Position:

The Marketing Manager will be responsible for coordination of all marketing operations at Alaskan Brewing Company. This position is accountable for driving revenue through creative and effective marketing programs and support consistent with Alaskan Brewing brand guidelines and it’s vision, mission and core values. The Marketing Manager provides leadership and direction to long-term and short-term marketing objectives, formulates strategies for attainment and develops performance standards for measuring progress. Manages the performance of marketing operations and staff, with an understanding of financial ROI (return on investment), and corporate culture. Includes cost center responsibility for overall marketing expenditures as well as collaboration with sales manager on sales budget and profitability analysis for driving revenues in our business. Our organization requires a broad management skills set enabling this position to perform marketing functions as defined below, plus additional functions as assigned.

  • Chain Store/Independents/Distributor Marketing Leadership: This position requires a strong understanding of the beverage (preferably alcoholic beverage) marketplace and how to create sales tools for successful and cost beneficial “pitches” to national chain buyers, independent stores and our individual distributor partners. This position also will require working closely with marketing departments of some of our larger distributors and providing them with desirable materials for their pitches to their various customers.
  • Brand Marketing: Oversees management of brand related designs, packages and materials used in promotions, programs, advertising, support materials and branding for all things Alaskan Brewing Co. related. Oversees market research and survey activity to support marketing and management decisions. Is responsible for trademark protection, and knowledge of advertising, labeling, serving and other laws that pertain to alcoholic beverage sales and marketing in all regions where Alaskan product(s) are sold.
  • Brand Leadership: Leading review of brand standards on a consistent basis, monitor and communicate brand standards, and assure that Alaskan is keeping consistent branding during transition periods and that our brand is protected for the long term.
  • Tactical and Strategic Planning: Working closely with Finance Team, develop and jointly execute annual revenue, pricing, marketing and sales plans. Sales functions include direct collaboration with Director of Sales to meet specific sales volume, revenue and budget goals annually in conjunction with other high-level managers. This position will also include working with key sales managers to develop annual local/regional marketing strategies and tactics/promotions to meet business objectives in multiple markets. Uses sales forecasting and strategic planning tools to ensure the sale and profitability of products. Knowledge of sales data reporting systems required. Knowledge of markets, distributor operations and key customers is expected. Oversees development of best tools and support materials available for our sales crew.
  • Media and External Communication: Develop a communication strategy which effectively engages the brand’s strategic target and supports internal business goals and objectives. This includes the development of digital marketing strategies to increase traffic and engagement with customers.
  • Supervisory Role: Our marketing team consisting of a Creative Project Manager, Marketing Specialist and other possible specialist and coordinators reports directly to this position. This position has ultimate responsibility for the performance and continuing development of this team.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this person is a key member of the Sales & Marketing team working in collaboration with other Marketing, Sales and Leadership team members.

Knowledge and skills that are beneficial to be successful in this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business Admin., Marketing, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in this functional position; beverage industry preferred.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead both an on-site and a remote workforce and get results through others, in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities, including project management
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, plus ability to motivate and negotiate with internal and external customers.
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level
  • Financial/statistical analysis and legal business skills.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet applications, databases, contact management software, word processing, and presentation software.
  • Experience with Social Media management and creation.
