Job brief:
We are a small, family-owned funeral home looking for a Mortician to join our team to work directly with families and help prepare for the final disposition of their loved one. As a mortician, you will be responsible for meeting with families to handle funeral arrangements; preparation on the body, including embalming; and taking care of cremations for both people and pets. You will also be a part of the removal process, picking up the decedent from place of passing for transportation to the funeral home, as well as preforming any normal task of a Mortician.
We would like someone who is compassionate and empathetic, and they should be able to handle sensitive and emotional situations with professionalism and grace. Someone who understands the role of a Mortician and the important impact you make on people’s lives when it comes to the final goodbye of their loved one.
• Pay will depend on experience, but a Licensed Funeral Director will start around $22.00 and a Licensed Funeral Director/ Embalmer will start around $25.00.
• Payday is once a month.
• Potential for bonuses and overtime.
• We pay half health insurance.
• We are not a commission based funeral home.
Responsibilities – include, but are not limited to.
• Removals from place of passing to funeral home.
• Meeting with families to plan and arrange funerals.
• Taking care of your families from start to finish.
• Coordinating Logistics – coordination with clergy and other service providers.
• Answering phones.
• Basic chores for upkeep of funeral home.
• Ensure cleanliness of equipment and preparation room.
• Embalm, dress, cosmetically enhance, and casket deceased people.
• Obtain documents and permits related to embalming and funerals from various sources.
• Helping veterans get laid to rest and all the small details that is included there.
• Arrange flowers, religious leaders and pallbearers for funerary events.
• Provide emotional support.
Requirements and skills – include, but are not limited to.
• Must have a valid license from the OMCB (or the ability to obtain one) for funeral services and embalming.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Must live within 20 minutes of Aloha, Oregon.
• Must be detail-oriented.
• Proven work experience as a Mortician or similar role.
• Willing to work occasional weekends and after-hours.
• Proficient knowledge of various religions, cultures and customs.
• Ability to pick up on things quickly.
• Must be able to problem solve, as nothing is the same twice.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Excellent organizational talent.
• Ability to focus for extended periods.
• Must be able to lift 150lbs.
• Be able to follow basic instructions and follow all safety guidelines.
