General Responsibilities
The Director of Skilled Trades Program is a non-teaching administrative role that works closely with division faculty and staff with effective and innovative leadership and advocacy in promoting student success outcomes. The Director supports efforts to foster a culture of care and belonging and promote a climate of high performance in operational and academic excellence. The Director supports the day-to-day operations of the division through planning, organizing, managing, and improving division operations and oversight of processes and procedures as delegated by the Business, Engineering, and Technology ( BET ) Dean and Associate Vice President of Workforce Development ( AVPWD ) for credit and workforce skilled trade programs. The Director works collaboratively with Deans, Associate Deans, Department Heads, Program Managers, and other institutional staff to accomplish divisional and college goals and objectives.
Work Performed
In collaboration with the BET Dean and AVPWD , provide leadership in the trade center in developing and evaluating long-term goals and objectives, ensuring alignment with HCC's mission, vision, values, goals, and objectives
Manage student academic complaints, code of conduct violations, and placement issues
In support of the BET Dean and AVPWD , collaborate with the skilled trade program faculty and staff to develop non-credit to credit stackable credentials and pathways programs
In collaboration with the Associate Vice President of Teaching and Learning, BET Dean, AVPWD , and other staff as appropriate, maintain existing partnerships and develop new collaborative relationships with other divisions, the community, employers, and peer institutions
Support with coordination of internal and external grant proposals and administration
Facilitate faculty professional development activities in the credit and workforce skilled trade programs in collaboration with Faculty Development and Learning Innovation staff
Work with faculty and staff to ensure all labs are maintained and supplied with the proper equipment and training devices for the Workforce Development and Trades Center programs
To support the AVPWD , ensure all program advisory committees are current and advisory meetings are appropriately scheduled and conducted based on HCC and Perkins guidelines.
In collaboration with the faculty, BET Dean, and AVPWD , submit timely course schedules for credit and workforce skilled trade programs
Collaborate with the BET Dean, AVPWD , program managers, department heads, and other institutional staff as appropriate on accreditation and assessment activities for the courses and programs in the Workforce Development and Trades Center
Manage relationships with licensing/certification agencies to assure compliance, obtain approval, and oversee documentation for workforce development programs requiring approval from external credentialing or governing bodies
Work with faculty and administrative staff to facilitate active relationships with business and industry leaders, including program advisory boards
Manage a network of relationships with relevant employers, community groups, professional and business organizations, and local and federal government or oversight agencies to facilitate program development and implementation
Supports the BET Dean and AVPWD with the operation and policies of the skilled trades programs in other areas of the college
Participate in campus and college-wide student recruitment and student success efforts.
Support the planning and effective use of designated academic and physical spaces and technology to support student success
Collaborate with institutional staff and faculty to identify student needs to improve services and programs for the institution
Coordinate and organize assessment and data request/collection efforts across all departments. Work collaboratively with institutional staff in support of data collection and reporting requirements
Perform other duties as assigned
SUPERVISION
Support the hiring and onboarding of new faculty and staff as appropriate
Perform required full-time faculty and staff observations and performance evaluations, as appropriate, in accordance with policy
Support staff and faculty, as appropriate, in accordance with policy and procedures, and aligned to departmental and divisional needs
Support sabbaticals, promotions, etc., in accordance with policy and procedures and aligned to departmental and divisional needs
Communicate division policies and procedures, promote a culture of professionalism, and uphold job expectations equitably
Supervise staff, as appropriate

Bachelor's degree

Other Knowledge Required
Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in one of the program areas or a closely related field
A minimum of five (5) years of previous college teaching experience is preferred; community college experience is preferred
Minimum of three (3) years of direct management or leadership of career and technical education programs and ability to lead and direct division faculty
Knowledge of current CTE and/or workforce development issues and regional, state, and national labor market trends
Community College CTE certificate and degree curriculum development and program approval processes
Knowledge and understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion issues, and best practices in higher education
Excellent strategic planning, goal setting, and leading faculty and administrators toward outcomes
Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with a diverse range of students (including those with special needs), faculty, administrators, employers, and other constituents
Proven leadership and demonstrated ability to mediate conflict
Demonstrated ability to draw connections and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
Ability to work independently, flexibly, and as part of a team
Working knowledge of technology and data analysis as it applies to higher education
Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of HCC's mission and priorities, emphasizing teaching and learning
Ability to use technology to effectively gather data and manage enrollments, class schedules, and space/facilities planning
A working knowledge of curriculum and instructional planning, development, and assessment
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Strong communication skills, which include the ability to write clearly and concisely.
Regular, timely attendance is a requirement of this job
Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree, or equivalent, in one of the disciplines within the division
Ten years of experience in a field of study in a technical area
Experience or familiarity with course schedule building and enrollment tracking
Previous supervisory experience in higher education administration or leadership of career and technical programs
Demonstrated ability to lead teams to implement strategic goals and initiatives effectively.
Experience with budget management
Previous experience with curriculum development, management, and assessments

Some evening and weekend hours are required in response to program needs.
