Overview The University of California, Berkeley's Intercollegiate Athletics Department is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Athletic Performance Coach to join our team. This position will primarily focus on the direct athletic performance oversight of the Women's Swimming program, with significant assisting responsibilities for the Men's Swimming program and other Olympic Sports. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the physical development of our aquatic student-athletes, enhancing their performance, and minimizing injury risk through comprehensive dryland training and individualized programming. Responsibilities Direct Oversight of Women's Swimming Athletic Performance: Design, implement, and oversee all aspects of athletic performance programming for the Women's Swimming team, including strength, power, speed, conditioning, flexibility, and recovery. Develop periodized training plans that align with the team's competitive schedule and individual athlete needs. Conduct regular assessments and evaluations of athletes to track progress and adjust training protocols as necessary. Assisting with Men's Swimming Athletic Performance: Collaborate with the Associate Head Athletic Performance Coach in the development and implementation of athletic performance programs for the Men's Swimming team. Assist with the execution of dryland sessions and provide coaching support during training. Dryland Session Development & Implementation: Develop and implement innovative and sport-specific dryland training sessions tailored to the unique demands of competitive swimming. Integrate exercises that enhance swimming-specific movements, power output, and injury prevention. Aquatics Sport-Specific Knowledge: Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of swimming strokes, events, drills, and special exercises. Ability to apply this knowledge to the design of highly effective and relevant athletic performance programs for swimmers. Return-to-Play Protocols: Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive return-to-play protocols for injured aquatic athletes in collaboration with the athletic training staff. Ensure safe and effective rehabilitation and re-integration into full training and competition. Travel to Away Competitions: Travel with the Women's and/or Men's Swimming teams to away competitions as required, providing on-site athletic performance support and guidance. Other Athletic Performance Assisting Roles: Perform other athletic performance-related duties as directed by the Associate Head Athletic Performance Coach, which may include assisting with other varsity sports programs as well as general weight room administrative duties. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, or a related field. Current certification(s) from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., CSCS from NSCA, SCCC from CSCCa). Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in an athletic performance role, preferably within a collegiate or professional swimming environment. Proven experience in designing and implementing dryland training programs for swimmers. Strong understanding of swimming biomechanics, physiology, and common swimming-related injuries. Ability to effectively assess athletic performance, analyze data, and adjust training plans accordingly. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team. CPR/AED and First Aid certification. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in a related field. Experience competing in collegiate or professional swimming. Familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations. Salary $75,000 annually #J-18808-Ljbffr University of California, Berkeley
